William Thomas Wilson Sr., affectionately known to many as “Thomas,” departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, faith, and deep familial connection. He was born on November 14, 1963, in Cottageville, South Carolina, to the late William Harris Wilson and Rachel Myrtis Evans. Named in honor of his father, he carried his name with dignity and pride throughout his life.
Thomas was the tenth of eleven children, raised in a large and loving family rooted in the close-knit community of Cottageville. He attended and graduated from the Colleton County School System, where he formed early bonds that would remain meaningful throughout his life. His upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of family, resilience, and community responsibility. Known for his jovial spirit and remarkable storytelling ability, Thomas had a unique gift for bringing people together. Whether among family or friends, he could light up any room with humor, wisdom, and vivid recollections of family history. His presence created moments of joy, reflection, and connection—qualities that will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Later in life, Thomas relocated to Daytona Beach, Florida, where he established a life centered on love, work, and fatherhood. He took great pride in his son, William Wilson, affectionately known as “Lil Will,” with whom he shared a close and meaningful bond.
Thomas dedicated over 30 years of service to the Halifax Hospital System and Bethune-Cookman Dining Services. His work ethic, reliability, and commitment to serving others were evident throughout his career. Beyond his professional life, he was a prayerful man who loved the Lord and valued the importance of maintaining strong family ties.
He is survived by his beloved son, William Thomas Wilson Jr. His sisters, Rashidah Ahmad, Kamilah Sharif, all of Massachusetts, and Rosa L. Wilson of California; his brothers, Bernard Wilson of Nevada, Jesse Wilson of Philadelphia, and Hammad Rashad of Massachusetts; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who cherished him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harris Wilson and Rachel Myrtis Evans, and his brothers, Herbert Wilson, George Wilson, and Carol Wilson. Thomas leaves behind not only a grieving family but also a community that loved and embraced him. His sudden passing is a profound loss that has touched all who knew him. Yet, his legacy endures in the stories he told, the love he gave, and the connections he nurtured.He will be remembered always for his laughter, his faith, and his unwavering devotion to family.
He will be deeply missed.
