Ms. Vivian Chisolm, born on November 9, 1957, in Walterboro, SC, to the late Edith Mulligan and Robert Donaldson, exemplified a vibrant spirit that truly embraced the essence of Southern life. Her fond memories of growing up in the South were cherished deeply, even as her mother and sisters relocated to New York. Vivian chose to remain in Walterboro, nurturing her roots alongside her beloved grandmother, Belle Mulligan. However, the passing of her grandmother in 1980 compelled her to venture northward. Though she left the South, its warmth and charm remained a treasured part of her identity, as she often reminisced about the “good-ole days” spent in her hometown.
In New York, Vivian found love and companionship with Dion, who stood steadfastly by her side until her last days. Their bond was marked by profound affection and unwavering support, embodying a love that endured life's challenges.
Vivian dedicated many years of her professional life to Macy's, where her commitment and hard work left a lasting impact. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and a deep-rooted connection to her Southern heritage.
Preceded in death by her sisters, Desmond Mulligan and Yvonne Norman, Vivian leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her life partner, Dion Stewart of Brooklyn, NY; her daughter, Tarnicia Chisolm (Calvin) of Brooklyn, NY; two sons, Ronnie Chisolm of Florida and Montel Chisolm of Brooklyn, NY; two brothers, James Rivers (Janie) of Hampton, SC, and Kelly Mulligan of Jacksonville, FL; as well as four nieces, Joyce Mulligan-Scott of St. Helena Island, SC, Kezia Norman of Brooklyn, NY, Andrea Anthony, and Ownikka Cooper; five nephews, Steve Mulligan of Brooklyn, NY, Cliff Norman of Walterboro, SC, Kasone Clayton of Brooklyn, NY, Khalese Mulligan, and Chris Mulligan; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins and friends.
Vivian’s spirit will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, resilience, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives. May she rest in peace.
