John 15:12-15 says, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command…”
Mary Ann Thomas, affectionately known as “Ting” was born March 23,1946. She was a friend to all she had the pleasure of meeting, departed this life on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. “Ting” as she was known by the childhood nickname given by her brother, John, was the daughter of the late Lena Mae Thomas and the late Halsey Lee Mitchell. She was educated in the public schools of Colleton County, graduating from Colleton High School; .on June 1, 1964. After graduating high school, she spent time with her brother, John, in New Jersey, where her charm and pizzazz made her natural star shine even brighter! She was indeed a joy to behold!
Mary Ann spent many years working alongside her mother in various homes in Walterboro. She was faithful to any task that she undertook, a trait that was evident throughout her entire life. If you asked her for a favor, it was done. If you asked her for a dime, she gave it. If you asked her for a meal, it was prepared. She was created to be a light, an unconditional friend, and she accepted her calling with a fierce determination. Her love for others was exemplified throughout her life. She devoted her life to her family, but her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy; especially her great grand children Ja’Liyah, Hunter, and Julia.
Mary Ann attended Rock of Ages A.M.E. Church in Walterboro. Her life is a testament to her acceptance of Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She lived by the Christian virtues of love, compassion, and respect, and like Proverbs 3:3-4 says, Mary Ann strived to “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.” Mary Ann found favor in the sight of God and man as evident by the countless number of friends that she made during her lifetime. She is tremendously missed already.
