Margean White Obituary

Margean Washington White, 73, of Walterboro, South Carolina, peacefully entered eternal rest on April 18, 2025.

Born on February 19, 1952, in Walterboro, Margean was the cherished daughter of the late Lucille Middleton-Washington and James W. Washington. She was the second youngest of eight siblings: the late Jeff Middleton, Deloris Armstead of Boston, Massachusetts, the late Willie James Washington, the late Henry L. Washington, Ellaree Sanders of Boston, Massachusetts, the late Bobby Williams, and Marilyn Washington of Boston, Massachusetts.

Margean was educated in the Boston Public School System and proudly graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls. She continued her education at the University of Massachusetts Boston, earning her bachelor's degree. Her calling to serve others led her to pursue nursing, obtaining two nursing degrees from Beaufort Technical College.

Over a career spanning more than three decades, Margean served faithfully in various nursing roles throughout Beaufort, Charleston, Hampton, Jasper, and Colleton counties. She ended her professional journey as a school nurse with the Colleton County School District, retiring in 2018.

Deeply committed to community and civic engagement, Margean was an active and proud member of many organizations, including: The Order of Eastern Star Whitehall #132, Heroines of Jerico Pride of Ridgeville #7, Order of the Golden Circle MLK Assembly #349, Ronald E. McNair Guill #5, Queen Esther Court #2 LOCOP, Arabian Court #7 DOI, Princess Eugenia PGRPM, Temple of Crusaders, Arabian Temple 128, Vanda T. Patton Court #8 PYCH, the Hiram E. Mann Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., the NAACP, the League of Negro Women, and the Walterboro High School Athletic and Band Booster Clubs.

In 1976, Margean married her soulmate, Willie J. White. Their 48-year union was one of deep love, shared purpose, and family devotion. She is survived by her loving husband; their four children, Barbara White Gray of Bradenton, Florida, James W. Washington of Boston, Massachusetts, Anika Y. White of Saint Matthews, South Carolina, and Willie J. White (Melanie) of Savannah, Georgia; along with 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
