Lorraine Louise Colleton-Simmons, 89, entered into eternal rest on
April 5, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. She was born on March 2, 1937, in
Moss Swamp, South Carolina, to the late Robert Colleton, Sr. and Helen
Reed Colleton. She was raised in a loving, close‑knit family where the
strong values of faith, perseverance, and compassion were instilled
into her and guided her throughout her life.
Lorraine was educated in the Colleton County school system. She
developed a quiet strength and the discipline to be a self-starter. She
was baptized at an early age, which informed her devotion to family.
Having taught herself to sew, crochet, and knit, she made most of her
own clothing, crocheted blankets for all her grandchildren, and knitted
bedspreads.
Lorraine dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and
extended family. She possessed a passionate spirit and a heart that
welcomed everyone. Anyone entering her home was met with comfort,
laughter, delicious food, and a memorable time.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Beverly Ann
Simmons; her parents; and her brothers David Colleton, Marion
Colleton, Robert Colleton Jr., and James Colleton.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children: Reverend Be
Louis Colleton of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Larry H. Colleton (Lynn)
of Orlando, Florida; Reverend James A. Simmons of St. Louis, Missouri;
Cedric M. Simmons (Tammy) of Mableton, Georgia; and devoted
brother, Melvin Colleton (Rhoda) of Goose Creek, South Carolina.
Lorraine’s legacy continues through her grandchildren: April Holland
(Nathan), Geoffrey Colleton, Ayneka Benjamin (Kelly), Jacob Colleton,
and Camden Alexander Simmons; and her great‑grandchildren:
Benjamin Holland, Jared Holland, Silas Benjamin, Israel Benjamin,
Gabrielle Holland, Danielle Holland, Angela Holland, and Charity
Benjamin.
She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces: Judith Brown, Tracey
Glover (Jarod), Tondalayer Colleton, and Tededria Colleton; her
nephews: Victor Craig Pinckney, David Brown, Quentin Colleton, Devin
Colleton (Melissa); along with a host of additional nieces, nephews,
cousins, friends, and extended family who were touched by her
kindness.
Lorraine’s life was a testament to hard work and her love for family.
She will be remembered for her hospitality, sincerity, and her devotion
to family. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the
lives she touched.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
(2 Corinthians 5:8 NSV)
