Jewel Wright Merrett, the son of the late Ethel Merrett was born on December 9, 1935. After a long and prosperous life, Jewel entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at the Veterans Victory House.
As a youth, Jewel grew up and was educated in Americus, Ga. After graduating from school, Jewel enlustee into the United States Navy. He served his country for four years and was honorably discharged. He later relocated to Elizabeth City, New Jersey where he was employed then retired from the New Jersey Transit Corporation after 28 years as a bus operator. After retirement, Jewel and his wife relocated to Walterboro, SC.
Jewel was most affectionately known for his witty sense of humor, his booming deep voice and for always having a story or a joke to tell.
Jewel W. Merrett was loving husband, a devoted father and grandfather, a jovial Uncle and a wonderful friend.
Jewel was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lois Merrett and a grandson, Jevon Merrett.
Jewel Merrett's memory and legacy will live on through his daughter, Sharon Merrett of Newark, NJ. Grandchildren, Dorrell Merrett of Newark, NJ, Shuntae Merrett of Americus, Ga and Demitri Merrett of Newark, NJ Greatgrands Jaquan, Erin, Nyla, Tristan, Tyler and Demetri, Jr, a caring niece and nephew Frezell and Barbara Rowe, A host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. He will be sorely missed by his VVH family on the Lyons and Elliott units as well as his hospice care taker Mrs. Luretha Holmes
