Mrs. Janie Mae “Snookie” Vandkye was born August 28, 1949 in Walterboro South Carolina to the late Walter Brown, Sr. and Lillie Mae Smalls-Brown. She transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, March 8 2021 at the Savannah Memorial Health Center. Snookie (as she was affectionately known) attended Colleton Training Center. She was employed with VMS Cleaning Service until her health failed.
Snookie was the third youngest of eleven children of which seven preceded her in death: Elliott Mosley, Samuel Brown, Inez Colleton, Martha Scriven, Walter Brown, Jr. Rose Mary Brown, and Louis Brown.
Also preceding her in death, husband Wilbur Vandyke, Sr. and a great-grand, Miss Raniya Wright.
Snookie enjoyed listening to her favorite gospel artists: Marvin Sapp and Rance Allen. The songs “Something about the name Jesus” and “Never would have made it” were her songs of joy.
Snookie was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went.
Snookie was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important — the simplicity of living a life with those she loved. She will truly be miss by the many lives she touched along her life journey.
Snookie leaves to cherish her fond memories five children: Janie Ruth Brown, Patricia Lynn Vandyke, Mary Lynn Vandyke, Wilbur Vandyke, Jr. (Roselyn) of Walterboro, SC; and Gregory Vandkye (Pamela) of Topeka, Kansas; Thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; one nephew and a cousin, who she loved dearly: Roy Lee Brown, of Summerville, SC and Linda Griffin of Walterboro, SC; three sisters, Mary Skeet Brown, Betty Brown, and Lillie Pearl Salley, of Walterboro, SC; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
