James Owens, Sr. Obituary

Mr. James Lee Owens, Sr. was born August 27, 1961 in Walterboro, South Carolina to the late Gilbert Owens, Jr. and Lillie Owens. He transitioned into eternal rest on May 1, 2022 at Wellstar Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. James was a 1980 graduate of Walterboro High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served faithfully and proudly at various duty stations including Japan, Guam, San Diego, and his last being Camp LeJune North Carolina. Upon completion of his military duties, James and his family moved to Morehead City North Carolina where he along with his brother, Jesse started their own construction/masonry business.
James was the fifth (5th) of seven children which three preceded him in death: Gilbert III, Johnny, and Rodney. Also preceding him in death was a grandson.
During his high school years, James received many accolades and accomplishments in football including being the first 4-year starter, a member of the Mighty 26 Football Team, and ultimately being enshrined into Colleton County School District’s Hall of Fame.
James was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, and big Washington Redskins fan. He ran Owens Construction/Masonry LLC in Atlanta Georgia with his two youngest sons, Jaymes and Jamel. James was loved and respected by many. Those who knew him loved him; for he never met a stranger. He will truly be missed.
