George Alexander Jonas Rivers , known affectionately by some as Zanda was born September 4, 1957 in Fordham Hospital located in Bronx New York to the late Jonas and Ora Lee Rivers. He entered into eternal rest at Colleton Medical Center on October 26, 2023. Zanda grew up in the Bronx he enjoyed racing model cars and riding a unicycle . Zanda also enjoyed the sport of basketball or playing street games such as round up tag and skelzies. When his family moved to Queens he attended Public School 109 then Andrew Jackson H.S. however he obtained his GED diploma in later years. Zanda also obtained a barbering certificate, did lawn care and construction for a short period of time. While living in Queens he worked at Kennedy Airport.
Zanda loved to dress and would change his clothes several times a day, he had an abundance of pairs of sneakers and shoes. He loved to read the dictionary, write poetry and freestyle rap his rapper moniker was AZ. His favorite rapper is Future. He loved chess and scrabble and played every Friday night. His dream was to start a gourmet popcorn business.
Although Zanda made some bad choices and liked fast money he had a good heart he opened his home and pockets to family and friends in need. He supported Dezmyne and Dasani like a grandfather, he did anything for us, he was my boy who had a lot of knowledge and will be missed”
Zanda is survived by his beloved son Taron Shepard (April) his beloved brother Larry (Marion) Rivers, a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends Zanda was preceded in death by his father and mother Jonas and Ora Lee Rivers, his brother Julius and James Rivers and his sisters Gwendolyn Rivers and Brenda Rivers-Boyd.
