Deacon Weldon L. Howard was born on June 26, 1941, in Oxford, North Carolina, to the late Theodore and Sarah Harris Howard. He peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the home of his daughter, Kendra, in Okatie, South Carolina, under the compassionate care of Friends of Carolina Hospice Care of Ridgeland, South Carolina.
Deacon Howard received his early education in the schools of North Carolina and later devoted his life to hard work and service. Throughout his lifetime, he held various occupations; however, his greatest passion was cooking, where he faithfully served in multiple culinary roles. He retired as a chef from the Federal Reserve Bank Cafeteria in Manhattan, New York.
A devoted servant of God, Deacon Howard was a faithful member of God’s Universal Outreach Deliverance Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he served under the leadership of Bishop and Pastor Barfield. In 1986, he united in holy matrimony with his beloved wife, Mary Howard. Together, they shared a life rooted in faith, ministry, and a steadfast commitment to God’s work.
Later in life, he relocated to Walterboro, South Carolina, where he continued his ministry and fellowship at Pillar of Truth Church in Ruffin, South Carolina. He served faithfully as Head Deacon under the leadership of the late Overseer Apostle Rosa Vick and later under his wife, Pastor Mary Howard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Sarah Harris; his son, Ronald Johnson and his daughter in law, Marsha Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Pastor Mary Howard; his children, Weldon Howard Jr., William Howard (Pamela), James Howard, Weldon(Sha) Johnson, Cynthia Johnson,
Charles (Charlie) Johnson and Kendra (Bernard)Murray; as well as his stepchildren, Vonetta (Kenneth) Koger of Walterboro, South Carolina, and Duane (Saundra) Henderson of Smyrna, Georgia.
He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, including John (Eva) Stephens, Charles (Lillie) Mitchell, and Peggy (David)Delee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his life and legacy.
Deacon Howard loved God, His family, children, church family, and was dedicated to the ministry. Deacon Howard was not just a hearer of Gods Word but He was a Doer also. Working behind the scenes ensuring everything runs smoothly, the first one in and the last one to leave.
He was Man of Great Faith and held on to the promises of God, until the Lord called him home.
