Charles White Obituary

Obituary

Charles Rodney White, Jr., 79 of Cottageville, SC, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2022.  He is the son of the late Charles and Honer (Hudson) White, Sr. of Cottageville, SC.

Charles, lovingly known by several nicknames, ‘Boy,’ ‘Bunk’ or ‘Charlie White,’ is a Colleton County School system graduate.  He spent a small amount of time working for the railroad company up North, but eventually came back to Cottageville to start his career as a barber, a trade guided by his father, for the next 42 years.  He owned and operated a barber shop called CBS, in Walterboro, SC around 1994.  Around 2004, Charles retired from the business, but never parted from being a barberand continued his trade by seeing devoted clients on his back porch.  Charles loved music.  His favorite artists were James Brown, Nina Simone, Otis Redding and Tevin Campbell.  He enjoyed watching sports, but he especially enjoyed watching and playing baseball.  The position he was best known for in sandlot baseball was a side arm pitcher.  He wasn’t an avid hunter but made time to hunt from his porch when the time was right.

He would talk about in his younger days, how he did all the work in the field and how he would have to do the bulk of the work that his siblings did not.  He and his siblings would fuss all the time about who did the most work and who was spoiled the most. This was comical to witness.  He loved his family and would fight anyone who bothered his sisters.  He enjoyed when family and friends gathered at the park. He would be out there to“fellowship” with those in attendance.  He took pride in his appearance and would often say, “Smell good, look good, clean with my shades on!  Smell good even cutting the grass!”  He loved his parents and was fond of his father but extremely connected with his mother and cared for her in her latter years.

He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Honer White;siblings Willie White, Arthur White, Thomas White, Clyde White, Ruth White Daniels, Dorothy White Salley, Barbara White Camerl and Mabel White.

He is survived by is loving sons Dana (Renata) Frasier, N. Charleston, SC and David White, Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Jordan White and Jedyn White of Summerville, SC; step-grandchildren Deon Richardson, Bryson Richardson and Cayden Richardson, N. Charleston, SC; a sister, Mary White Davis, Cottageville, SC; brother-in-law, Tim Camerl, Bristol, CT; a huge host of cousins, nieces and nephews andfriends Jesse Jones, Cottageville, SC and James Kinsey, Neyles, SC, a fellow barber Charles worked with in his younger days at Hodges Barbershop in Walterboro, SC.
