Carrie Bell Jenkins-Bryant Obituary
Carrie Bell Jenkins-Bryant, lovingly known as “Momma,” was born on October 5, 1930, in Greenpond (Cheekee), South Carolina, to the late Clara Henry-Jenkins and Melchur Gathers. She peacefully transitioned on April 29, 2026, at Colleton County Medical Center.
Carrie received her education in Catholic Hill, South Carolina. In the 1950s, she relocated to Paterson, New Jersey, in search of greater opportunities, where she became a dedicated presser at Spotless Cleaners until her retirement. In 1988, she returned home to Ritter, South Carolina, where she devoted her life to caring for her family and community.
A true matriarch, Carrie created a home filled with love, warmth, and open doors. She found joy in cooking, fishing, and bringing people together. Known for her generous and compassionate spirit, she ensured that no one in her presence went without a meal, a place to stay, or a kind word. To know her was to feel loved.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruthie Brown; grandsons Kenneth Bryant, Jamal McGuire, Treyvon McGuire, and Terrence Combs; granddaughter NaTasha Davis; her parents, Clara Henry-Jenkins and Melchur Gathers; and her special cousin, Nazarene “Naz” Washington.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Samuel Bryant Jr. (Sheila) of Greenpond, SC; Frank Bryant (Patricia) of Ritter, SC; Matthew Bryant of Ritter, SC; and Elizabeth Pinckney of Newark, NJ; along with a legacy of 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her special cousin, Paul Jenkins, and a host of extended family and friends.
Carrie’s life was a testament to love, strength, and service. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, continuing to inspire generations through the example she set and the love she shared so freely.
