Benjamin Brown Obituary

Benjamin "Ben" Brown was born July 17, 1954 in  Newport, SC to the late Willis Brown, Sr. and Cora Lee Penicle Brown.

He entered into eternal rest on March 8, 2022 at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC.

Benjamin attended the public schools of Colleton County in Walterboro, SC. After high school, he served proudly in the U.S. Army. As a young man, he was a member of Heavengate United Methodist Church. Prior to his health failing, Ben was employed with Ackerman Landscaping for 15 years.

Benjamin has his unique personality and was a great man who took care of his family. He held many titles, but the one he cherished most was "Papa".

He was proceeded in death by his brother William (Christina) Brown, Joseph Manigo, James (Patricia) Brown and sister Shirley McCullough


He is survived by his loving companion of 28 years, Barbara Richardson, two daughters who he reared as his own, Kelly Edwards and Katrina Richardson (SC) Brothers Edmond Brown, Richmond Brown, Stanley Brown (NY) Willis (Kathleen) Brown, Jr.  Luther Brown (SC). Sisters Elizabeth Given (Franklin) (NJ) Eunicestine Rutledge (Leslie), Gloria Smith (NY). Alma Pencile, Willie Mae Gadsden (Willie) Carleather Stroman (Timothy) (SC) Aunt Ethel Pencile Granddaughters Hope Robinson (Bryan), Christal Buckner,  Errica Richardson, Imani Richardson, Ky-Nasia Shider, Grandsons Gionni Richardson, Tre-Mari Davis (also his godson) and another Godson Willis Brown (also a nephew) Fifteen greatgrands, a host of neices, nephews, other relatives and friends.
