Obituary

Beatrice “Peggy” Brown was born on February 28, 1947.  She was the 3rd oldest of 10 children born to Henry and Lizzie Lee Preer in Phenix City, Alabama.  She attended school in Russell County and assisted her mother with her siblings. As she entered adulthood, at the age of 18, she met the love of her life, Clarence.  They courted for 6 months and married on the 7thmonth, February, 17th. The union created loving memories for 56 years and included raising their children together and enjoying a full life through triumphs and tribulations that always brought the family closer.  

During her life Peggy was fortunate enough to travel around the world with her husband and go to such destinations as Mexico, Aruba, and Hawaii.   As a military wife, she and her family also lived in Germany, Washington, Alabama, Texas, and settled in South Carolina. 

Upon moving to Walterboro, SC in the 80’s, the family joined Wesley United Methodist Church under the direction of Reverend McClendon.  She was an active member of the women’s committee through the name change New Life United Methodist Church.  Though she did not attend services over the last few years, she was still a woman of Faith and knew her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  

Affectionately known by many as “Auntie Peg”, she enjoyed helping others and worked as a caretaker to neighbors and as ababysitter to many children. She loved her family deeply and remained close to her siblings even though they were separated by distance. She loved to laugh and created life -long friendshipswith people who became family, she was loved by so many in the community.

She transitioned peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband and children on Friday, August 26, 2022 @ 2:14pm.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Henry and Lizzie Lee Preer, brothers, Henry Preer, Jr. and Richard Peer, sister, Virginia Miles, 2 brother in laws, 2 sister in laws, 2 nephews and 3 dear friends, Esther George, Betty Helton, and Helen Mills. 

She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her loving and dedicated husband of 56 years, Clarence Brown, her sons Clarence Anthony Brown of Moncks Corner, SC and Charles Adrian Brown of Jacksonville, FL, daughters, Celeste Astrid (Brian) Mercer of Columbia, SC and Claretha Angelica Brown, of San Antonio, TX   whom she helped raise as her own. Her pride and joy, her grandchildren:  Ky’mani, Zy’mira, and Ja’kayla Mercer of Columbia, SC and Keshawn Terry of Jacksonville, Florida. Sisters, Margaret (Oliver) Williams, Maryann Jackson, Janice (John) Allen, Minister Velina Felton, and Ethel Mae Miles. All of Phenix City, AL., Brothers, EmmittPreer of Phenix City, AL and Edward Preer of Huntsville, AL, brother in law Aaron (Freida) Brown Summerville, Sc and sister in law Rosena Brown Walterboro, SC.  As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  

Peggy will have wanted to be remembered as a woman of faithand distinction.  She will be celebrated for the great love of her husband, children and grandchildren.
