Alvin Blakeney passed away at home in his sleep on October 21, 2021 at age 73. Alvin was born in Pageland, South Carolina on November 21, 1947. He was the son of the late Benjamin King and Janie Mae Blakeney.
While growing up in Colleton County, Alvin attended elementary and high school in Walterboro, S.C. He then continued his education at Denmark Tech. Alvin moved to California in search of more opportunities. While there he continued carpentry, and joined the carpenters union. He also discovered a new found brotherhood as a mason. He was united in holy matrimony to Diann R. Buford, and blessed with a son, Eric Alvin Blakeney. Alvin moved his family back home to Walterboro, SC to be closer to his siblings. He absolutely loved his land. It took hard work, but that’s what he enjoyed doing. He loved raising his goats, chickens, hogs, and hosting friendship gatherings, just simply having a good time.
Alvin always stood up for what he believed in, even if it wasn’t the popular thing to do. There definitely was no shame in his game and you would know that within 5 minutes of greeting him. He would always extend a helping hand to family and friends that needed help. If there was a slither of free time, he would get his fishing pole and call family and friends and go fishing. Alvins infectious laugh and big heart will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Diann Blakeney of Walterboro, SC, a daughter, Beverly Hodges of Williams, SC, a son Eric (Shalonda) Blakeney of Greer, SC and step-son Kevin (Leanna) Buford of Walterboro, SC. Two sisters Margaret (Donald) Blakeney of Walterboro, SC and Hilda Reid of Walterboro, SC. Two brothers William (Mamie) Blakeney of N. Charleston, SC and Gilbert (Mary) Blakeney of Walterboro, SC.
